Design and Analysis of Experiments
Montgomery, Douglas (2000) Design and Analysis of Experiments 5h Edition, Wiley (ISBN 0-471-31649-0)
Comments:
Montgomery's book is an important reference on design of experiments for any experimenter. This book provides a large amount of both theoretical and practical information on classical DOE and analysis of variance models. Both a strength and a weakness of the book is its coverage of such a broad range of experimental and modeling topics. As expected, factorial and fractional factorial designs are extensively covered. The book focuses more on the statistical analysis of factorial designs than on the planning and acquisition phases of experimentation. However, Montgomery introduces his principles for the "proper use of statistical methods in experimentation" in the first chapter. These principles are foundational in our philosophy and approach towards teaching and applying DOE in industry. In addition to the thorough coverage of factorial designs, Montgomery's book serves as an excellent introduction to more "advanced" techniques, such as response surface models, evolutionary operation, and Taguchi designs.
